A Remarkable Woman!
Derided at the time as a “clothes horse” and as arm candy for a handsome young President, Jackie Kennedy was only thirty one years old when she entered the White House and only 34 when she was widowed by an assassin’s bullet. The interviews by Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. being published just now were done in 1964, months after the assassination, reveal a formidable and acute first lady: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/12/us/12jackie.html?pagewanted=1&hp&adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1315832543-ygbTb1AGxvYPfV502wADeg
What told me that this was no ordinary person was her comment, years later, on how raising one’s children was the one thing you absolutely had to get right. Later Kennedy biographers (Robert Dallek most notably) reveal that she was fully aware of and deeply wounded by her husband’s sexual ominvorousness. This was a truly remarkable woman. I can hardly wait to read these interviews.
